What is the Metaverse?

October 7, 2022

The Metaverse is a virtual world that combines physical and digital reality, where people can connect with technological devices. The objective is to feel the sensation of teleporting to an alternative world through virtual reality glasses and other devices that will allow us to interact in this new world.

The term “Metaverse” is not new. We have seen several references to its meaning in different literary adaptations, video games and cinematographic works. Recently, the use of this virtual world has been boosted by large companies that are betting on this modality.

For our associate lawyer, Rebeca Galdámez, different companies are betting on the implementation of the Metaverse because it is a novel concept that can become functional in the future.

“At present it is being experimented, it is being designed and it is having a couple of useful elements. Some companies are betting on it to be a new marketing branch and to be able to get to design new products or services,” emphasized.

Likewise, our lawyer explains that the Metaverse has different advantages. For example, the possibility of creating our own businesses or work meetings in which everyone shares a virtual office by connecting from their homes in different parts of the world.

One of the main ideas of Metaverse is that we enjoy maximum freedom of creation and creativity, both to make our user or avatar similar to ourappearance, and to make the touches to our liking. In addition, it is intended to create the environment of our business, teaching centers or rooms to our liking.

Our expert explains that the success of the Metaverse will depend on the business model and the creativity of each company to take advantage of it. For example, at Torres Legal we use this virtual world for meetings with our clients in different parts of the world, with the aim of offering a different experience and being a reference in the new technological trends applied to Legaltech in the region.

However, Galdámez states that the companies that are investing in the Metaverse are only beginning to create the infrastructures and the first concepts that will lead to a future where there are devices capable of taking us to it: “The current challenges is the adoption, the diffusion and the preparation of people to want
to interact in a computerized digital world.”
